016 - Bobby Songs Set 2

Here we go with set two of our look at Bobby songs and his collaboration with the late John Perry Barlow. RJ Bee returns with more music and discussion to follow episode 15's great first set. Hopefully we can live up to that standard with this episode. RJ is the founder of the Helping Friendly Podcast as well as the Osiris Podcast Network and an all around great guy so please take a minute or two to check those sites out.

015 - Bobby Songs

We begin the Spring thaw with a visit from my good friend and the founder of both the Helping Friendly Podcast and the Osiris Podcast Network, RJ Bee. RJ wanted to talk about Bobby songs so that's just what we'll do. We also, spend a fair amount of time discussing the work of the late John Perry Barlow. Barlow's writing for the Grateful Dead along with his advocacy for an open internet via the Electronic Frontier Foundation are both keys to the very existence of this podcast. He will be missed and forever held in the utmost esteem.

As of late February, the Brokedown Podcast became a charter member of the Osiris Podcast Network. Osiris is a growing community of music and culture podcasts, connecting music fans with conversation, commentary and music. Osiris works in partnership with Relix, check them out for music news and information.

014 - Playing In The Band

We've made it through January and the days are getting longer. Although the men in the top hats have disturbed the groundhogs, hibernation isn't quite over so we have a one-part episode this month. Here's hoping the hot jams warm your home.

This go round, I'm dusting off a mix that I assembled several years back that amounts to a fairly epic survey of the song Playing In The Band. In true Grateful Dead fashion, this jam covers a lot of ground and should not disappoint. The full breakdown of included clips is listed below.

012 - One-Off Venues: Set 1

Happy New Year! Here's hoping that your 2017 closed out well and 2018 is off to a good start. I know I'm hoping that we at the podcast, along with all of you, can take this one higher than the last.

With that in mind, we're kicking off 2018 with another visit from my good friend, Andy Barnes. Together we dug into a list of venues that the Grateful Dead only visited one time and we've assembled what I hope you'll find to be an entertaining listen.

We cover a fair big of ground in this set, from the 60's to the 80's, with some rock, blues, and jamming throughout. Once again, this will be a two-parter, continuing with Ep013 in two weeks. So spin this up and hunker down by the fire as we wait out the Winter together.

011 - Ghosts of New Years' Past

It's December and, on top of the various religious holidays ahead, we close out and usher in a new and hopefully better year. Once upon a time, in Grateful Dead land, the eve of the new year was celebrated with a festive concert appearance, perhaps even a run of concerts. Sometimes, spectacle would accompany the strike of midnight but really, the Grateful Dead is all the spectacle we Deadheads need.

This month we take a look at a few of those New Year's Eve performances and play some choice cuts to help you close out your year. We've got the Rock & Roll, Blues, and, my personal favorite genre, Face-Melting Jams.

So, polish off the egg nog and break into the bubbly, cos we're gonna party like it's 1969.

010 - More with Jesse Jarnow & '67 Dead

We're going bi-weekly in November with our interview with author, Jesse Jarnow. In episode 009 (Listen HERE) we talked about Jesse's background as a Dead Head and writer and how the two streams combined. Then we began tearing into a survey of the recorded history of 1967 Grateful Dead.

That's where our conversation picks up this time. There's a fair bit of music left to discuss so we get right on into it.
