014 - Playing In The Band

We've made it through January and the days are getting longer. Although the men in the top hats have disturbed the groundhogs, hibernation isn't quite over so we have a one-part episode this month. Here's hoping the hot jams warm your home.

This go round, I'm dusting off a mix that I assembled several years back that amounts to a fairly epic survey of the song Playing In The Band. In true Grateful Dead fashion, this jam covers a lot of ground and should not disappoint. The full breakdown of included clips is listed below.

We'll be back next month with a guest and a ton of music for you to dig upon. In the meantime, thanks for tuning in, please share this with your friends, and consider posting a review on the iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts.

  1. Cool idea for a show! Interesting how this song quickly developed from the no-jam version heard on the Skull & Roses album to become a big jam tune that they never dropped from the repertoire. For me, those '72-'74 versions are the cream of the crop, often at full blast from the start and just plowing through endless fields of lysergic vision with no hesitation whatsoever.
