Greetings, Dead Freaks! My guest this episode is Nashville, based guitarist Sean Thompson. We talk bout his background in Nashville, his local scene, and his solo project, Sean Thompson's Weird Ears. Naturally, we get into some Good Ole Grateful Dead along the way.

In this episode I chat with guitarist, Jeremy Kizina, about his return to guitar and his recent release "Our Ghosts Follow". We dig into his background as a touring musician, his wide-ranging influences, and, of course, the Grateful Dead. I sneak in a couple of new music recommendations at the top of the show and there's a terrific mix of Dead in the back half.

Writer, researcher & producer Sophie Abramowitz, artist & musician Sarah Bachman, and folklorist, writer & (terrific record label) SPINSTER co-owner Emily Hilliard explore singer-songwriters who have been shouldered with this title. Please do check out there show wherever you find your favorite podcasts.

I mentioned a few of the many recent releases from The Modern Folk in the intro this episode. "Serf Punk", a singer-songwriter-ish album that I love, was first. Click here to check it out. "Primitive Future III" follows and that one, quite different to "Serf Punk", is largely instrumental. Dave Harrington (Darkside, Taper's Choice) joins me to talk about his latest solo album, "Skull Dream" out now on his new label, Maximum Overdub. We take the time to catch up on a few projects he's worked on since we last spoke, including Taper's Choice and, very recently, playing Garcia's Alligator guitar onstage. I cut off a couple slices of his music and then wrap things up with a nice slab of Good Old Grateful Dead.

Andy Logan, founder of the Grateful Guitars Foundation and steward of Jerry Garcia's Alligator guitar joins me to discuss the mission of the foundation, the magic within these special instruments, a new benefit album, and the upcoming show to support the foundation. 

The new album, which benefits Grateful Guitars, is called "Grateful: The Music Plays The Band" and features Oteil Burbridge, Dave Nelson Band, Dark Star Orchestra, Afro Dead and more. It's out now and can be found in physical and streaming outlets via this link.

I didn't mention that the joint release is a tribute to the founder of SOB, Kevin McFadin who passed last year. I had some interactions with McFadin myself and enjoyed a number of SOB releases. He will certainly be missed.

Organ Fairchild

This episode features a chat with Dave Ruch of Organ Fairchild. A fairly new organ trio out of Buffalo, New York, Organ Fairchild features three players who have been jamming together for about 40 years. Their sound blends classic Organ groove with jam band sensibilities stretching their grooves out live and making danceable new sounds to thrill the listener. The big news from Organ Fairchild is not only are they releasing their second album "Leisure Suit" in September, but they will be embarking on their "Dead of Summer" tour playing sets of originals and Grateful Dead music. Back once again with a talk with guitarist & composer, Jordan Perry. Jordan has a terrific new album, entitled "What Do You See Every Day?", coming out June 16th on Feeding Tube Records & 20/20 Records. We discuss the album, his background, his work as a music educator and, of course, the Grateful Dead.

Greetings, Dead Freaks!

It's 2023 and we're still truckin'. This time my guest is Jeremy Hurewitz who is better known by the name under which he releases his beautiful music, "rootless". rootless music is centered on Hurewitz's guitar but contains a wide array of collaborations and sounds. We get into the varying nature of the rootless albums, the music that inspires and influences Hurewitz and so much more in our chat. Also in this episode, I pay tribute two great artists who recently passed, David Crosby and Tom Verlaine.

The most recent rootless release is entitled "What The Truth Leaves Out" and is available on cassette via Feeding Tube Records (FeedingTubeRecords.com). You can also find that and many more releases digitally at rootless.bandcamp.com.

Greetings Dead Freaks!

Eli Winter returns! Previously appearing in a short chat for ep 47, he's back for a full length interview and an amazing new self-titled album. Although it's just his name on the front of the record, this album finds Winter collaborating with a fabulous array of artists including Cameron Knowler, Yasmin Williams, David Grubbs, Ryley Walker, Tyler Damon, and the late jaimie branch.  I've included a track from the album and it's followed by a lengthy blast of Grateful Dead from Chicago's Kinetic Playground.
