033 - Generational Band

It's December and temperatures may be falling but we've still got hot jams for you. Inspired by a Bob Weir quote in this recent Rolling Stone interview, this episode digs into where Grateful Dead music goes in the next fifty years. We'll check into Dead & Company, Phil & Friends, Keller Williams, Golden Gate Wingmen, and Joe Russo's Almost Dead. Then, we'll spin some terrific Grateful Dead.

This go-round, I completely forgot to mention the merch (again.) We still have shirts that are on our redbubble page. Please consider heading over there to cop a little something with our sweet new logo. In addition to ladies and men’s shirts, we've got stickers, and things that hold coffee (or tea!) All of these make great holiday gifts...

017 - Golden Gate Wingmen

We've got a special and unusual episode for you this time around. I had the great fortune to join my good friend and head of Osiris, RJ Bee, at a Golden Gate Wingmen show late last month. The show, at The Hamilton Live, was the kick-off for a short tour and it was a blast. To make things even more exciting, we got to meet and interview the band. Jeff Chimenti (keys, vocals), John Kadlecik (guitar, vocals), Jay Lane (drums, vocals), and Reed Mathis (bass, vocals) were friendly, forthcoming, and entertaining.

You'll hear our interview with the band and about an hour's worth of tunes from the show in this episode. Thanks to RJ Bee for making the interview happen. Thanks also to DC Music Review for allowing me to share a couple of Jason Herman's beautiful photos from the night. You'll find more of his great shots as well as RJ's write-up of the show right here

The show that night was terrific. The song selection and deep, creative jams were exactly what I want from a gig these days. The songs may not be originals but Golden Gate Wingmen aren't recreating or rehashing anything. These guys get out there on a limb and manage to swing back with grace.

Thanks as well to taper Alex Leary for making and sharing his excellent recording with us. You can hear and download the entire show here.
