029 - MSG '90

Hey there, Dead Freaks! It's October and although I'm ready for cooler weather, I'm still into talking about September. Specifically, September 1990. We're looking back to that first run of shows at Madison Square Garden with Vince and Bruce joining the Grateful Dead on the keys. While this era is often maligned, there's great stuff to be heard. In fact, this run has spawned a Dick's Picks (#9) and a Road Trips release! We're combing through what's to bring you some great playing from the dawning of a new era.

I completely failed to mention the merch in this episode (AGAIN) so I'll just add here, you can still grab t-shirts, mugs (travel & otherwise), and stickers over on the Redbubble site.

Let me remind you that the Brokedown Podcast is part of the Osiris Podcast Network. Osiris is creating a community that connects people like you with podcasts and live experiences about artists and topics you love. Sign up for the newsletter at OsirisPod.com to stay in the loop. We'll be doing a live HFPod event on October 20 at Vanguard Brewpub & Distillery in Hampton, VA before the Phish show. Check out the event page on Facebook for details. It's coming up soon!

Don't forget to follow the @BrokedownPod twitter account for regular news, live tweetstorms of shows as I listen, and other minutiae. We also have an Instagram account with the same handle. If you like pictures of things, you can find that here: BrokedownPod Instagram. Also, if you use iTunes, please consider posting a review as it really help get the word out.

  1. This is a terrific cross-section of the Sep90 MSG run. I was at the 9/19 show, and immediately recognized the opening notes of the Jack Straw you used here. My wife was at two of the earlier shows that week. So glad you included the 9/14 Scarlet>Fire! I had a poor sounding audience tape of that show, but your audience tapes are crispier. Thank you! Can these mp3 files be downloaded directly for import into iTunes as Music rather than as podcasts?
